The Scranton Times contains an article today on a natural gas drilling misstep that went unreported until questioned by a curious DEP field investigator.  The incident resulted in a $13,000 fine being imposed against the fracking company.  Incidents such as the one reported in the story are subject to self reporting guidelines.  Unfortunately. not all companies are complying with the requirements resulting in negative stories such as the one reported today.   DEP just does not support enough investigators in the field to be checking every drill site and well pad.  Companies would be well served to be diligent in their self reporting to avoid negative commentary.
