In a lengthy report reviewing the Department of Environment and its performance regulating the Marcellus Shale Natural gas boom from 2008 through 2012, the Pennsylvania Auditor General found what most people already knew—Pennsylvania lacked modern regulations to handle the fracking explosion of activity and DEP was understaffed and underfunded to properly regulate the natural gas business.  A disturbing finding in the report notes that instead of increasing DEP funding, Governor Corbett decreased funding during this critical time period.  The full report can be read on the Auditor General’s web site.
