Critics of Governor Corbett and the State House’s proposed fee on gas drilling sites today note that money to be collected is minimal compared to other states. The fee per gas drilling rig unit falls far short of taxes imposed in Texas of over 5%. Even gas companies, according to critics, support a higher tax, impact fee or severance fee; whatever the politically sensitive politicians want to call the revenue source. Critics site the need to state revenues and monies to counter balance environmental concerns.
