Environment v Fracking? UPS to Utilize Natural Gas Fleet in Luzerne County

The debate over the continued use of fracking for natural gas versus significant environmental concerns is an ongoing fight.  Chemicals injected into the ground, concerns over fracking waste, water pollution, air pollution and health concerns continue to be studied.  Even earthquakes have been linked to fracking waste injection wells in Ohio.

On the other side of the coin is the increased production of natural gas with the increase in its availability for home heating, industrial use and potential utilization in motor vehicles.  Many coal fired utility plants have already converted to cleaner burning natural gas or closed all together due to lack of demand.

Today the Wilkes Barre Times Leader reports that UPS in Luzerne County will modify its fleet of trucks to utilize natural gas instead of gasoline engines.  This is part of UPS’s plan to have an all natural gas powered fleet sometime in the not too distant future. This change will significantly decrease carbon emissions and benefit the environment.

The fight over fracking versus the environment will continue.
