Reports today note that DEP oversight of fracking accidents involving spills has been hampered by lack of notice.  The reports indicate that many companies fail to report the spills either at all, or on an untimely basis.  Many of the spills are deemed “minor” and not a big deal by the companies involved.  Also, lack of updated regulations in Pennsylvania create situations where the spills or leaks are not technically required to be reported.  DEP is trying to convince companies to report all spills in timely fashion.  New regulations are not expected too soon out of Harrisburg.
