Gas Drilling In State Forests?—Not So Fast

When the Marcellus Shale boom started in Pennsylvania natural gas drilling sprung up quickly in State forests and game lands. Pennsylvania officials placed a halt to drilling so officials could study the impact it was having on the environment. Now, despite Governor Corbett lifting the moratorium, the Scranton Times is reporting that the Governor and his staff at the DNCR have slowed down leasing and drilling in state forests. Richard Allen, Secretary of DNCR states that once the moratorium is lifted natural gas drillers must perform in compliance with Governor Corbett’s Marcellus Shale Commission recommendations that all natural gas drilling in state forest and game lands be done with little or no environmental impact.
