Fracking technology has opened vast areas of natural gas and oil reserves for exploration, drilling and extraction.  The United States is quickly becoming energy self-sufficient.  However, fracking requires the use of great amounts of fresh water.  This is quickly becoming a concern.

Reports today indicate that the industry is reviewing water usage in drought stricken states.  California and much of the Southwest finds itself in the grips of record drought.  Water tables and reserves are falling at record rates.  Naturally the fracking industry is under scrutiny for using so much water.  This issue needs to be followed closely.  The lack of water could greatly slow down the fracking industry, especially in states currently fighting drought conditions.
