Let’s Take a Look Back at 2023 in the Long-Term Care Community

Long term care
Date: December 29, 2023

Dougherty Leventhal & Price, LLP wishes you a Happy New Year! As advocates for exceptional care for residents in nursing homes, we want to take the opportunity to reflect on this past year for long-term care.

Just like McKnight’s Long-Term Care News, we at DLP recognize that 2023 has brought about some significant changes, particularly growth, for long-term care. Which raises the question: What’s in store for 2024?

While the CMS minimum staffing mandate was proposed in early September, it is not projected to pass any time in 2024. However, the pressure to hire more staff and increase hours will remain steady. In addition to addressing staffing concerns, CMS has shared that they intend to increase infection control practices as well.

With CMS taking vital measures to improve care, especially this past year, expectations for 2024 are very high. There is still a lot that needs to be done to ensure that residents are getting the care they deserve.

Long-term care is a needs-based field. Over 10,000 people are turning 65 each day, indicating that care needs will only continue to climb. As people age, they turn to long-term care facilities for the assistance and care they require. If issues such as staffing requirements continue to be problematic, the quality of care will decline more and more.

We at DLP are hopeful that the CMS will pass more necessary rules and standards for long-term care facilities in 2024. 2023 was certainly a step in the right direction and our team is eager to see what other measures CMS will choose to enforce.

We at DLP are committed to educating others on long-term care news because we want residents to receive only the best care.
