Monterey and Chesapeake in News — DLP Increases Number of Clients In Pennsylvania’s Marcellus Shale Rgions Including BRADFORD, SUSQUEHANNA AND TIOGA COUNTIES

Date: October 7, 2012

When people think of “Monterey” they may have visions of wine,  Pebble Beach or perhaps  Clint Eastwood.    Today, reporters from the Pittsburgh Post – Gazette published an article highlighting the Monterey Shale natural gas reserves.  Yes, according to the article natural gas drilling has come to the Monterey area of California.   The authors note that natural gas drilling in an area known for it beauty,  grape vines,  wine production,  lettuce and other goods has brought with it concerns of property owners in the area.  The entire article can be read on the  PPG’s  Pipeline Blog.

Chesapeake Gas and Oil,  not the Bay, is also in the news.  Reports out of West Virginia note that the company has agreed to pay civil fines for illegally polluting the environment in lieu of criminal charges!!   Chesapeake admitted to dumping rock waste into or near stream beds.   The company also admitted other undisclosed violations.    These type of environmental breaches are exactly what the natural gas drilling industry in general tries to avoid.   There is plenty of money to be made drilling for gas doing thIngs the “right way”.   With drilling still halted in New York and parts of Pennsylvania, the industry does not need intentional environmental violations like these to be making the headlines.
