When most people see motorcycles on the road, a common reaction is to associate the bike with being extremely dangerous. Unfortunately, this stigma is true. The National Safety Council reports that motorcyclists account for approximately 14% of all traffic fatalities, although they make up only 3% of registered vehicles.
Fatalities among motorcyclists have increased a huge 8% between 2020 and 2021 alone. In addition, in the last 10 years or so, motorcycle-related deaths have increased by 19% and death rates by 29%.
Motorcycles are quite dangerous, and it is important to be cautious when either driving one or sharing the road with these vehicles. Since motorcycles lack the protective shell that other vehicles have, drivers are more exposed to injury. Not to mention, these bikes do not have safety equipment like seatbelts or airbags. These safety features can be the difference between life and death, making motorcycles the most dangerous motor vehicle to operate.
