New York Appeals Court Sides with Local Government’s Control of Fracking—Gas Drilling in New York on the Brink

Date: June 30, 2014

New York has maintained a moratorium on fracking for natural gas for over six years.  Today the New York Appeals Court upheld the rights of local governments to permit or not permit fracking within municipal borders.  The case has been closely followed by the gas drilling industry.  The decision may mean trouble for the natural gas industry as it continues in its efforts to begin fracking operations in New York State.
