If you suffer the bloss of an eye or loss of vision as the result of a work injury, the Pennsylvania Workers Compensation Act allows financial recovery for such injury. “Loss” of vision is determined by assessing the injured worker’s eyesight without the use of corrective lenses. Where the eye is injured but not destroyed, the issue is whether the eye was lost for all practical intents and purposes, i.e. where the injured eye does not contribute materially to the claimant’s vision in conjunction with the uninjured eye. To establish this, the claimant msut present expert medical testimony in support of the claim. Under Section 306(c) of the Act, benefits for loss of an eye are payable for 275 weeks plus a 10 week healing period.
