The state of Pennsylvania has a Worker and Community Right to Know Act which was established in 1984. The act was created as a way to communicate information regarding hazardous materials that are present at work sites. Relevant data is collected by the Department of Labor and Industry.
Under this law, each and every employer has compliance responsibilities. It is every employer’s duty to share access to chemical information that may impact the work environment. In addition, employers should provide workers with relevant training provisions.
This act ensures that employees are aware of potential risks and hazards that the workplace may expose them to. Often times health problems take years to appear, especially issues that emerge from toxic pollutants, pesticides, and carcinogens. If an employer fails to disclose this information, they are responsible for withholding critical information.
