Governor Corbett has steadfastly voiced opposition to any new taxes, especially a natural gas severance tax, during his first three years in office.  Now with a June 30th deadline looming for submission of his yearly budget, the Governor is faced with a large budget shortfall.  Representatives of the Governor today hinted that a severance tax might be on the table to fill the revenue void.  Support for such a tax has been growing statewide over the past several months.  Governor Corbett is facing a tough reelection campaign and the polls may be pushing him to support a severance tax.  His opponent Tom Wolf is supporting a 5% severance tax.
