Medicare is a health insurance program that provides medical coverage to people 65 years of age or older and people with certain disabilities. There are different parts of Medicare. Medicare Part A covers inpatient care in hospitals and also helps to cover the cost of care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and home health care. Medicare Part B helps to cover doctors’ bills and other health care providers’ services, outpatient care, the cost of durable medical equipment, and certain aspects of home health care. Part B also helps to cover the cost of some preventive services to help maintain your health and to keep certain illnesses from worsening. Medicare Part C (aka Medicare Advantage) offers healthcare plan options run by Medicare-approved private insurance companies. Medicare Part D helps to cover the cost of prescription drugs. Part is administered by Medicare-approved private insurance companies.
