Question: I’m run in a small business with 4 employees. My wife helps out with my business from time to time but she only works about 20 hours per week. My accountant told me that I still need to include her as an “employee” when I submit my application for workers compensation insurance. Is that true?
Answer: Pennsylvania law requires that you cover any employee under your workers compensation insurance policy, regardless of the number of hours they work per week – even if that person is your spouse or child. As they say- it’s better to be safe than sorry. Explain the situation to your workers compensation insurance agent and include your wife in your policy.
