On August 18th, 2021, YahooFinance.com published an article regarding government research showing a decrease in effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccine across nursing homes in the United States. After CDC researchers examined nursing home Covid-19 Delta variant data ranging from June 21st, 2021 to August 9th, 2021, they concluded that the efficiency of two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine decreased in effectiveness from 74.7 % to 53.1%. This data was made known to the public at the same time when news broke out about the availability of Covid-19 booster shots coming this fall. The article’s author, Nancy Lapid, mentions that nursing home residents, the elderly, and immunocompromised will be among the first groups of people to receive a Covid-19 booster shot in September. However, it is important to mention that according to the CDC, Covid-19 vaccines are still preventing serious infection that leads to hospitalization and could potentially result in death.
